Raspberry leaves have been known since at least Antiquity.
A legend from Greek mythology tells how raspberries went from pearly white to the rosy red we know today. According to the legend, the baby Zeus was entrusted to the nymph Ida, daughter of the king of Crete. To soothe the cries of the future king of Olympus, she went to pick raspberries and accidentally pricked her breast on one of the thorns. The drop of blood that fell coloured the raspberry.
Since then, the raspberry is said to carry the colour of Ida's blood. This legend is reflected in the very name of the plant: her Latin name Rubus idaeus literally means "Ida's bramble" or "the bramble of Ida's world".
The astringent properties of Raspberry leaves, together with their gifts for late pregnancy (preparation for birth) and the harmonisation of the feminine cycle, make her a plant that offers far more than her fruits.
